Lucas Digne has left Aston Villa to return to Paris Saint-Germain, signing a three-year contract with the European champions.
The 33-year-old France international, raised in the Paris area, is going back to the club where he spent two seasons from 2013 to 2015. Digne said he was delighted to rejoin PSG and praised the club’s progress since his first spell there, adding that he was eager to begin the next stage of his career and contribute his experience to the squad.
Following his departure from Paris, Digne had a loan spell at Roma in Serie A before joining Barcelona. The Spanish club was coached at the time by Luis Enrique, who is now in charge of PSG.
Digne switched to English football in 2018, initially signing for Everton, and moved to Aston Villa four years later. At Villa Park, he helped Unai Emery’s side win the Europa League last season.
The defender has made 64 appearances for France and established himself as his country’s leading left-back during the 2026 World Cup.
His arrival makes Digne PSG’s second significant addition of the summer, following the recruitment of fellow France international Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco.
There is a possibility that Digne’s first appearance for his new club could come against Aston Villa on Wednesday, when PSG face their former employers in the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg.
Over the longer term, however, Digne is expected primarily to serve as competition and cover for PSG’s established left-back, Nuno Mendes.
