Justine Madugu has raised concerns over the Super Falcons’ defensive form after Nigeria conceded five goals across their matches against Malawi and Egypt.
Quick facts
- Five goals conceded against Malawi and Egypt.
- Madugu described the goals as highly avoidable.
- Nigeria allowed only three goals while winning a record-extending 10th WAFCON title last year.
The coach said the team’s recent defensive lapses were particularly troubling, insisting that Nigeria had previously been strong at the back.
Madugu acknowledged that the goals had come from mistakes the side should have avoided, and warned that the way they were being conceded demanded urgent attention.
“We are normally very organised defensively, but lately we have given away far too many needless goals,” he said. “That is a major concern, and we need to put in the work to correct it.”
The Super Falcons conceded three times during their run to a 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations crown last year.
