Manchester City have turned down Barcelona’s latest £55 million offer for midfielder Rodri, but the Spanish club remain determined to bring the Spain international to Camp Nou.
Barcelona raised their bid after City rejected their opening proposal for the 30-year-old. The Premier League champions have nevertheless refused the improved terms, insisting that Rodri’s value is higher.
The midfielder has become a priority target for Barcelona as they seek to address concerns in the centre of the pitch and reinforce their squad before the new season begins. Rodri is understood to be receptive to a return to Spain, having previously represented Villarreal and Atlético Madrid.
City place a valuation of approximately £60 million or more on the player. Although they would prefer to retain him, the club may be willing to sanction a transfer if Barcelona meet that figure, particularly with Rodri approaching the final year of his contract.
Barcelona are expected to remain in discussions with City as they work to find an agreement for the midfielder.
