Hosts Morocco, Cameroon, Algeria and first-time participants Malawi will battle for places in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final today in Rabat, with every semi-finalist having already secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Algeria and Malawi open the last-four programme at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for about 18:00 local time. Algeria reached the semi-finals for the first time by overturning a one-goal deficit to defeat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in the quarter-finals, as Ines Khiri and Amira Ould Braham supplied the goals. Malawi, competing at the tournament for the first time, also recovered from behind to overcome Ghana 2-1. Temwa Chawinga levelled the contest before Rose Kadzere struck the decisive late goal. Temwa and her sister Tabitha Chawinga have scored five of Malawi’s goals between them.
Morocco will then face Cameroon at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat at roughly 21:00 local time. The hosts moved past South Africa in the quarter-finals to reach their third consecutive WAFCON semi-final. Cameroon created the competition’s biggest surprise by defeating reigning champions Nigeria and their Super Falcons 1-0, with Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen scoring the only goal.
Following Nigeria’s exit, the Super Falcons will meet South Africa on Thursday at Casablanca’s Moulay Rachid Stadium. The match will be a play-in fixture for qualification to the FIFA inter-confederation play-offs.
The two Wednesday semi-final winners will contest the WAFCON final, while the defeated teams will face each other in the third-place play-off.
