The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set up a fact-finding panel to investigate the national teams’ recent international disappointments after the Super Falcons missed out on qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Super Falcons’ World Cup run ends
The move comes after Nigeria’s underwhelming showing at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Cameroon defeated the Super Falcons in the quarter-finals, before South Africa secured a 2-1 victory in the ensuing playoff for a place in the Inter-Confederation Playoffs.
That result brought an end to Nigeria’s participation in every Women’s World Cup edition since the tournament was launched in 1991.
Panel tasked with investigating setbacks
The federation said the committee would assess the circumstances behind the latest difficulties affecting Nigeria’s national teams and propose steps to ensure that similar setbacks are avoided at future tournaments.
Its membership is as follows:
- Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON — chair
- Ladan Bosso — member
- Desire Oparanozie — member
- Mutiu Adepoju — member
- Dr Alex Mana — member
- Nasiru Jibril — secretary
Report to guide future improvements
The NFF said the committee’s findings would provide the foundation for measures designed to raise the standard of Nigeria’s national teams and deliver stronger performances in upcoming international competitions.
