Nigeria seal Group A summit

  1. Nigeria chose to bat first and reached 133 for seven from their 20 overs.
  2. Omosigho Eguakun produced the key innings for the visitors, making 50 from 46 balls and striking seven boundaries. Peace Usen contributed 32 from 35 deliveries, while Deborah Bassey added a brisk 14 from eight balls at the close.
  3. In response, Tanzania struggled against Nigeria’s disciplined attack and ended on 76 for eight, giving the Junior Female YellowGreens a 57-run victory.
  4. Jennifer Godwin returned the best figures, taking two wickets for nine runs in two overs. Chisom Okpe claimed two for 14 from four overs, Shola Adekunle recorded one for nine in four overs, including a maiden, and Glory Idiahi finished with one for four.
  5. Captain Saumu Hussein led Tanzania’s scoring with 29 from 40 balls, while Rahma Yahaya made 21, but neither could inspire a successful chase.

Eguakun was named Player of the Match as Nigeria collected their third successive win in the competition. They had previously beaten Uganda by four wickets and also defeated Malawi.

The perfect Group A record gives Nigeria six points and first place in the standings. Their next assignment is a semi-final against Rwanda, who finished as runners-up in Group B.
