Nigeria has named a 14-player squad for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 1 Qualifier, which will be held in Tanzania from August 30 to September 5.
Quick facts
- Captain: Christabel Chukwuonye
- Vice-captain: Shola Adenkule
- Venue country: Tanzania
- Tournament dates: August 30 to September 5
- Opponents: Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Malawi
Christabel Chukwuonye will lead the Junior Female YellowGreens, while Shola Adenkule has been appointed her deputy. The selection came after a lengthy build-up featuring regional camps and a final assessment period in Benin.
During that last phase, the players were tested on their technical skills and challenged in competitive match situations before the squad was confirmed.
The group includes experienced names such as Omosigho Eguakun, Peace Usen, Anointed Akhigbe, Deborah Bassey and Jessica Bieni. They are joined by emerging players Inyene Ubong, Beauty Oguai, Favour Effiong, Chisom Okpe, Jennifer Godwin, Praise Onaghise and Glory Idiahi.
Nigeria will face six other teams in the seven-nation qualifying competition: Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. The sides are competing for a place at the global tournament.
Nigeria reached the first ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2025, and a number of players from that squad have since moved into the senior national team.
The squad is now in Lagos for its final camp. Preparations there will centre on tactical work, physical readiness and the team’s overall strategy before the players travel to Tanzania.
