Nigeria will send a 19-person contingent to Nairobi, Kenya, today for the first African Boxing Elite Championships, scheduled to take place from October 15 to 28.
The Nigerian team includes 10 fighters, made up of five men and five women, who will contest 10 different weight divisions.
The National Sports Commission said the event presents a major opportunity for Nigeria’s leading boxers to secure international exposure while measuring themselves against opponents from across Africa.
“This championship gives Nigeria’s elite fighters a valuable chance to assess their level against some of Africa’s strongest boxers, build international experience and show the strength of the country’s boxing talent,” the commission said.
The NSC urged the squad to uphold discipline, compete strongly and pursue excellence during the two-week championship.
