Nigeria’s boys have booked their place in the final of the 2026 CAVB U-18 African Nations Volleyball Championship after a 3-0 semi-final win over Cameroon in Alexandria, Egypt. They will now take on the hosts again in the championship decider on Thursday.

The Nigerians backed up their momentum from the previous day’s success by producing another dominant showing. They sealed the match with scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-19, extending their unbeaten run in the tournament.
This result pushed Nigeria’s winning streak to five straight matches and underlined their overall control throughout the event. Across the championship so far, they have conceded only a single set.
Nigeria also finished top of Group A through a series of comfortable results. They swept Morocco 3-0 and recorded the same margin against Burundi, then faced a sterner test versus Egypt, where they still came through 3-1 in their most challenging group meeting.
Knockout route
In the quarter-finals, Nigeria continued their clean-sheet progress with a 3-0 win over Libya. They then faced Cameroon again at the next stage and once more prevailed in straight sets, maintaining the same dominant rhythm into the semi-finals.
The performance has been driven by a strong attacking approach, a structured defensive system, and reliable serving. Those elements have helped Nigeria stand out as one of the tournament’s most impressive sides.
With a final spot secured, Nigeria now look to complete what would be a flawless campaign. Their goal is to claim the African U-18 title and add another milestone to the growth of the country’s youth volleyball programme.
However, the task ahead is not straightforward: Nigeria must overcome the Egyptian cadet team for a second time in the same competition. Egypt previously beat North African rivals Tunisia 3-2 in the second semi-final played on the same day.
Egypt led 2-1 after three sets, then Tunisia responded by taking the fourth with a 25-21 victory. Even so, the hosts kept their edge and closed the contest by winning the decisive fifth set 15-7.
That outcome sets up Egypt’s second meeting with Nigeria. The hosts had lost to Nigeria 3-1 in one of the group-stage encounters, but Egypt later overcame Tunisia 3-2 in a tightly contested semi-final, proving their ability to perform under pressure.
