Nigeria boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout phase of the 2026 African Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship with a 3-2 victory over Ghana in their second Group C fixture in Kenya.
The Nigerians claimed the first set 25-21, but Ghana levelled the contest by taking the second set by an identical scoreline.
Nigeria regained control in the third set, winning it 25-11, only for Ghana to respond once more with a 25-11 success in the fourth and send the match into a deciding set.
The contest went down to the wire, with Nigeria edging the fifth set 18-16 to secure a 25-21, 21-25, 25-11, 11-25, 18-16 triumph.
The victory was particularly valuable after Nigeria began their Group C campaign with a 3-1 loss against Tunisia.
Head coach Elishama Elam commended his players for maintaining their composure during the decisive set.
“This result is hugely significant for everyone because winning was essential if we were to keep our hopes of advancing alive,” Elam said.
“The players gave everything, and I want them to show that same determination in our next game against Cameroon.”
Nigeria’s final Group C match will be against Cameroon, with a place in the next phase on the line.
