The African Table Tennis Federation (ITTF Africa) honoured Nigerian sports journalist and administrator Olalekan Okusan with its Media Excellence Award at the ongoing ITTF Africa Youth Championships in Accra, Ghana.
ITTF Africa President Enitan Oshodi presented the plaque to Okusan, recognising his work spanning more than ten years in supporting and recording the growth of table tennis across the continent.
Oshodi praised Okusan as one of Africa’s most steady and impactful figures in sports media, saying: “For well over ten years, Okusan has continued to lead table tennis coverage, turning out hundreds of thoughtful reports, feature pieces, interviews, and tactical analyses.” He added that Okusan’s contribution has helped highlight African athletes, safeguard the sport’s past, and put promising regional players on the global map.
Federation representatives said the award underscores how high-quality journalism can help move sports forward, stressing that dependable media attention is vital for encouraging athlete involvement, attracting sponsorship, and capturing how the game continues to evolve.
At the ceremony, international guests taking part in the youth event—including coaches, players, and officials—were all in attendance.
