“Their award did not come as a surprise,” Popoola said. “They were active throughout the event, interacted well with the other participants and showed strong sportsmanship. I commend the team and urge them to maintain that standard.”
Other paramilitary agencies were represented at the Abuja event, but the Nigerian Police were conspicuously missing.
Kukkiwon display brings Mo Arena to life
The World Taekwondo Demonstration Team from Kukkiwon provided a spectacular show for supporters, combining striking performances with high-energy entertainment.
Excitement swept through Mo Arena as taekwondo followers and other spectators gathered for a memorable celebration of the Korean martial art.
While the championship produced a number of competitive bouts, the internationally acclaimed Kukkiwon performers raised the atmosphere further and turned the venue into a stage for standout moments.
The demonstration featured soaring kicks, forceful attacks, precise technical sequences, synchronised routines and acrobatic feats that drew loud cheers and sustained applause from the crowd.
Spectators watched the team execute difficult techniques at impressive pace, showing power, agility, flexibility and control. Each segment prompted another wave of noise from the packed arena.
The visitors also brought an international dimension to the championship, offering young competitors a clear example of what can be achieved through commitment, regular practice and hard work.
The Kukkiwon presentation highlighted taekwondo’s capacity to bring people together through athletics, culture and entertainment.
South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria Jeong Yo-an called on young Nigerians to embrace discipline, bravery, persistence and self-confidence in pursuit of success in sport and life.
Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, Jeong urged emerging athletes to keep working towards their ambitions, irrespective of results in individual competitions.
He said taekwondo was not solely about physical preparation, adding that it develops qualities capable of helping young people confront obstacles, grow in confidence and make positive contributions to society.
