Nottingham Forest are weighing a move for Nigerian teenage striker Abdoulaye Agbejoye as they monitor one of the country’s most promising emerging forwards.
Agbejoye, 18, has made a major impression during an excellent season with Grassrunners Football Academy, establishing himself among the standout young players in Nigerian football.
The 6ft 5in attacker has drawn comparisons with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, with his height, speed and finishing ability viewed as key features of his game.
His breakthrough year saw him claim the Golden Boot and the Player of the Tournament award at the Nigerian Youth League Cup.
That form has placed him on the radar of a number of European clubs, with German champions Bayer Leverkusen among those showing interest.
Forest are understood to be at the front of the queue, having stepped up their evaluation of Agbejoye’s progress at the Ogun State-based academy.
The Premier League club regard the forward as a long-term project who could eventually become a high-level striker, rather than someone expected to make an immediate impact in the first team.
Nigeria internationals Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina are also believed to have offered favourable views of Forest and their footballing environment. The club hopes their encouragement will help persuade Agbejoye that the City Ground provides the right setting for the next stage of his development.
