The Nigeria Premier Football League has cautioned Barau FC after club stewards entered the pitch without permission following the side’s Matchday 10 meeting with Kwara United.
League raises concern over video footage
In correspondence dated October 27, 2026, NPFL Chief Operating Officer Dr Ayo Abdulrahman said the league had been alerted by a widely circulated video showing Barau FC stewards moving onto the playing surface after the final whistle.
The league described the scenes as troubling and said the unauthorised access could represent a security risk at the Kano club’s home ground.
Stewards told to remain in designated areas
Barau FC were reminded that their stewards are expected to stay in the stands, with their main duty being the management of fans and spectators.
- Stewards are required to supervise supporters from the terraces.
- They must not enter restricted zones around the stadium.
- Access to the field of play is prohibited in all circumstances.
Sanctions possible for another breach
The NPFL stated that any recurrence at one of Barau FC’s forthcoming home matches could lead to disciplinary action.
The competition organisers underlined that host clubs carry full responsibility for the conduct and control of their stewards during fixtures.
