Plateau United coach Gbenga Ogunbote wants an immediate reaction after his team opened the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign with a 2-0 loss to Rivers United in Port Harcourt last weekend.

The Jos-based club suffered a rough outing at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, falling two goals behind before half-time and returning home without a point.
Abdulrasheed Dabai opened the scoring for Rivers United after six minutes. Wasiu Falolu then struck in the 38th minute to give the hosts a commanding advantage.
Plateau United could not find a way back into the contest, while Rivers United held firm to complete a three-point victory.
Ogunbote admitted that errors played a part in the setback and insisted his players must address them rapidly before their next fixture.
“We have to re-strategise,” the experienced coach said.
His immediate task is to establish precisely what broke down in Port Harcourt and make sure the same problems do not surface again in the matches ahead.
