The third India Independence Day Golf Tournament concluded at Ikeja Golf Club over the weekend, with Jimoh Ogundare claiming the men’s title and Linda Obieze taking the women’s prize.
Tournament praised for growth
Vice-captain Ejiro Ogomigo described the competition as a major success, saying the Indian community provided generous hospitality and spared no effort in entertaining the participants.
Ogomigo, who stood in for the club captain at the closing ceremony, said the event has improved with each staging and that this year’s edition marked a significant step forward.
He added that the tournament has become one of the fixtures most eagerly anticipated by club members because of its competitive nature and demanding conditions. The course proved particularly difficult this year, with the leading score reaching 38 points, compared with approximately 40 points at the previous edition.
Demand for places was also greater than the available capacity. Ogomigo said the organising committee had difficulty accommodating all interested members and expected the strong turnout to continue because of the high standard of competition.
He thanked the organisers for their work and investment, while also recognising the sponsors whose support helped make the third tournament a success.
