- Okpebholo welcomed the players at the Festival Hall, where they displayed the two trophies won during the season.
- As part of the celebration, the governor approved a combined cash bonus of N50 million for the squad and its officials.
- He said the achievements carried importance beyond Edo State, praising the players, coaching staff and other members of the team for their resolve throughout the tournament in Burkina Faso.
- Okpebholo also recalled the decisive penalty shootout, saying the goalkeeper’s composure and approach gave him confidence that Edo Queens would prevail.
- “This success means a great deal to the people of Edo and to Nigeria as a whole,” he said. “The players deserve recognition for their determination, while the coaches and officials also merit our appreciation. We will present the team with N50 million.”
Amadin Enabulele, chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, said the squad’s togetherness and persistence had enabled it to claim two major honours in one season. He also praised the recently installed management team for improving standards and ensuring the side maintained its momentum.
Jarrett Tenebe, chairman of Bendel Insurance FC, similarly applauded the champions’ competitive spirit. He said the governor’s firm backing could help Edo Queens establish themselves as a dominant force in continental football.
Tenebe further argued that constructive youth engagement through programmes such as sport could tackle as much as 85 per cent of the state’s security challenges.
