With questions still lingering over Taiwo Awoniyi’s long-term position at Nottingham Forest, the Super Eagles striker is nevertheless expected to remain in England for the time being.
Former Super Eagles midfielder and founder of the Imperial Football Academy, Seyi Olofinjana, says Awoniyi’s thinking is focused on paperwork before any potential change of scenery. Olofinjana explained that the forward wants to secure his second passport first, viewing that step as a prerequisite before weighing up opportunities elsewhere.
“Taiwo Awoniyi is a product of Imperial Football Academy, and he isn’t moving anywhere. He’s going to stay in England until he obtains his second passport.”
Olofinjana added that obtaining the additional passport is central to the striker’s plans and will guide when he makes any transfer-related decisions.
In the meantime, Awoniyi has sent a message about his readiness for the upcoming campaign by finding the net in Nottingham Forest’s pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers.
