Omamomi takes charge of scouting
The Local Organising Committee confirmed the appointment in a statement signed by its chairman, Adede Kufre Inima. It said Omamomi had been selected because of his extensive contribution to grassroots football, his record in running a respected academy and his standing as a trustworthy representative of football talent.
The competition is designed to uncover emerging players, promote national togetherness and establish clear sporting routes for young Nigerians. Those objectives are aligned with the vision of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio, the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In his new role, Omamomi will direct the talent-identification operation and lead the scouting unit throughout the tournament. His responsibilities will include locating, evaluating and putting forward outstanding players aged under 18.
He will also be expected to maintain professional standards while ensuring that every scouting exercise is conducted openly, fairly and in compliance with GRASOF’s technical guidelines.
Among his other duties, Omamomi will prepare daily scouting assessments and deliver a detailed concluding report on the talents identified. These findings will be submitted to the Technical Committee, along with other professional recommendations required to support the players’ future development.
Organisers back appointment
Inima said the organising committee was convinced that Omamomi’s knowledge and experience would make a significant contribution to the tournament’s mission of discovering new talent.
The appointment was also supported by Coach Ahmed Tanko, the committee’s technical head, and Hon. John Bassey Ekpenyong, national president of GRASOF. They said the addition of a seasoned professional would reinforce confidence in the scouting system and help grassroots players gain access to more opportunities.
The Local Organising Committee congratulated Omamomi on taking up the position and said it was eager to work with him in staging a successful tournament with a lasting impact.
