Milton Keynes Dons skipper Favour Omenazu has earned her maiden Super Falcons selection for Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic qualifying tie against Comoros.
Interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has brought the 24-year-old into his squad as Nigeria prepares for the second-round, two-leg contest. Omenazu is now in contention to make her first appearance at senior international level.
The invitation marks an important step in the defender’s career. She has become a prominent leader at MK Dons and recently chose to represent Nigeria internationally, although she was also eligible to play for England.
Her addition follows a series of player withdrawals from the initial Super Falcons squad, prompting Eguavoen to reinforce his group ahead of the decisive Olympic qualification assignment.
Nigeria started its preparations with fewer players than expected because several experienced squad members were unavailable. Omenazu’s inclusion gives the coach another selection option as he attempts to assemble a side capable of advancing to the next stage.
The opening match against Comoros is scheduled for Friday, October 9, with the second leg set for Tuesday, October 13. Both games will take place at Remo Stars Sports Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, after Comoros was unable to provide a venue approved by the Confederation of African Football for the home fixture.
Should Nigeria prevail on aggregate, the Super Falcons will move into the third round of the Olympic qualifying tournament. That competition will eventually decide which African nations earn places at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
