Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho have both begun the new Turkish season in outstanding fashion, emerging as early leaders in the scoring race in their respective leagues.
Osimhen has been particularly effective for Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig, finding the net six times during the opening stages of the campaign. His strong run continued in the meeting with Istanbul Başakşehir, although a groin injury forced him to leave the field during Galatasaray’s 3-2 triumph.
The setback has brought a temporary interruption to what had been a superb start for the Nigeria international striker.
Iheanacho, meanwhile, has regained his sharpness in front of goal in the Trendyol Birinci Lig. Across his first five appearances, the Super Eagles attacker has scored six goals and supplied two assists, placing him among the division’s leading offensive performers.
The form of both forwards would normally provide a major boost for Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle as preparations continue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures. Osimhen’s fitness concern, however, has raised the possibility that the national side may have to face upcoming games against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau without one of its most important attacking threats.
