The 2026/27 Premier League campaign will open with nine clubs led by new managers, establishing the largest pre-season turnover in the competition’s history.
The record was sealed when Newcastle United named German coach Matthias Jaissle as Eddie Howe’s successor. Jaissle, 38, arrives at St James’ Park after a successful period in charge of Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, where he collected major honours.
His immediate challenge will be to build on Newcastle’s recent progress while preparing the team for the new season. The appointment highlights the scale of change across England’s top division, with almost half of its clubs choosing new leadership during the summer.
As a result, nine sides will start the campaign with managers who were not in the dugout when the previous season began, surpassing the previous Premier League record for managerial changes before the opening weekend.
The confirmed changes include:
- Newcastle United — Matthias Jaissle
