Real Madrid have submitted improved contract terms to Vinicius Jr as they attempt to secure the Brazil winger’s future at the Bernabeu.
The 26-year-old is entering the last year of his current agreement and has recently drawn interest from Arsenal. Negotiations over an extension had stalled, but Madrid have now presented a revised proposal that Vinicius is understood to view positively.
The Spanish giants are waiting for his response, while senior figures at the club, including returning head coach Jose Mourinho, are increasingly optimistic that the forward will commit to a renewal. Should Vinicius turn down the offer, Arsenal are prepared to step up their pursuit.
Vinicius agreed to an extension three years ago that runs through 2027, yet discussions between Madrid and his representatives about a further contract have continued for the past 18 months. He reported back for his first pre-season workout and medical checks on Monday after representing Brazil at the World Cup.
With 375 appearances and 128 goals for Madrid across all competitions, Vinicius is believed to be seeking financial status that reflects his position as the club’s leading star. Madrid, however, have traditionally been firm about preserving their wage structure under president Florentino Perez.
Vinicius has previously called Madrid “the club of my dreams” and expressed his desire to stay there “for many years”. Arsenal regard him as their main target on the left wing if he decides that his future lies away from the Spanish capital.
