The South West APC Support Groups Council (APC-SGC) has introduced the regional phase of the Renewed Hope Unity Cup, a football competition for primary school pupils.
The competition is intended to identify promising grassroots athletes and rally support throughout the zone for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for another term in 2027.
At the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Iyaganku, Ibadan, the council’s Deputy Director-General, Ambassador Adewale Adeogun, said football offered an effective way to build links with communities from the grassroots upward.
Adeogun explained that the National Primary Schools Football Tournament was created to find emerging talent, foster togetherness among pupils nationwide, and engage parents and teachers throughout the South-West and the wider country.
Accompanied by the Zonal Secretary, Dr. Lawrence Enaholo, Adeogun said the umbrella organisation for recognised APC support groups in the six South-West states had maintained programmes focused on voter awareness, practical training for young people, micro-grants and other empowerment initiatives.
The organisation also made a public request to the APC national leadership and the recently formed Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) to grant it official recognition and stronger political backing.
Adeogun said the council had played a major role as a stakeholder in the party’s electoral successes and therefore deserved proper acknowledgement and greater patronage from the party and government at every level. He added that meeting the needs of the party’s grassroots supporters amounted to strengthening the APC’s future.
Declaring the council’s firm support for the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, he said it would begin a coordinated outreach programme across the South-West to present President Tinubu’s record on economic reforms, infrastructure and security.
He further said the South-West APC Support Groups Council would work closely with the Presidential Campaign Council, as constituted, to build backing for President Tinubu and other APC candidates across the zone.
Adeogun said the group planned extensive mobilisation through targeted interaction with residents, while drawing attention to Tinubu’s achievements and his stated efforts to move Nigeria beyond its economic difficulties, tackle deteriorating infrastructure and insecurity, and promote national development.
He said the council regarded those objectives as being rooted in the policies and initiatives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Adeogun repeated that greater responsibility followed the support already received, arguing that recognising and rewarding the grassroots would help secure the APC’s long-term future.
He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to the APC and its continued allegiance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
