Senegal beach soccer coach Oumar Sylla believes Nigeria can still reach the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations, despite Senegal defeating the Super Sand Eagles twice in Kaduna.
Sylla backs Nigeria
Senegal recorded matching 6-4 victories in the two warm-up games, but Sylla felt Nigeria displayed enough ability to pose a serious threat to Ghana in the qualifying tie.
He also commended the Nigerian players and backed their coach, Abdullahi Isa, to make further improvements to the team.
- The first friendly took place at Murtala Muhammed Square on October 3.
- Senegal won the second meeting at the same venue on October 5, with both matches ending 6-4.
- The fixtures formed part of Nigeria’s build-up for its Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ghana.
Isa demands greater focus
Isa acknowledged that Nigeria must sharpen its concentration after the two defeats by Senegal, with the Ghana qualifier approaching.
He said the Super Sand Eagles produced a stronger display in the second encounter, yet defensive lapses allowed Senegal to score during periods when the players lost focus.
Isa added that the demanding contests provided the level of preparation his squad required. His technical staff have already reviewed footage of Ghana, and he said they would continue analysing the opponents.
The two friendlies were organised to restore Nigeria’s match fitness and sharpness before the qualifying campaign.
