Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has praised Nigeria international Ademola Lookman after the winger’s match-winning contribution in the UEFA Champions League, pointing to his finishing record and dangerous ability in one-versus-one situations.
Lookman completed Atlético’s important 2-0 win over Manchester United at the Estadio Metropolitano on Tuesday night, reacting calmly to convert a rebound and wrap up all three points.
At his post-match media briefing, Simeone highlighted the attacker’s influence while stressing that Lookman is still working towards greater consistency as he nears his best level.
“He is a hugely important player. His numbers are very good, he scores goals and he is strong in one-on-one moments,” Simeone said after the game. “He is still improving his consistency, but he has found his scoring form again. He had excellent instinct to continue the move and the rebound fell kindly for him. It was a victory we needed.”
The result gives Atlético Madrid a significant lift in their European campaign, with Lookman again demonstrating his capacity to decide major matches.
