Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffery Buter has been ordered to pay a N500,000 fine and warned against making unsubstantiated public comments about the EuroMatchNPFL or its referees.
Key takeaways
- Buter accepted responsibility for remarks made after the Lagos Derby against Ikorodu City.
- The disciplinary panel took his admission and limited NPFL coaching experience into account.
- Coaches and club officials have been urged to use formal channels when raising complaints.
- The Sporting Lagos coach has seven working days to settle the penalty.
Disciplinary decision
The punishment followed an inquest conducted on Wednesday. During the hearing, Buter acknowledged that he had been wrong in comments made during a press interview after Sporting Lagos’ Lagos Derby with Ikorodu City on Wednesday, September 30.
The panel explained that the relatively moderate sanction reflected both the coach’s acceptance of his mistake and his limited experience working in the NPFL.
Warning to clubs and coaches
The league also used the proceedings to caution other coaches and club officials against making irresponsible statements capable of damaging the EuroMatchNPFL’s standing in the eyes of the public.
Officials were encouraged to pursue complaints and seek remedies through the league’s recognised dispute-resolution procedures rather than through unsupported public allegations.
Buter must pay the N500,000 within seven working days. Failure to do so could result in more severe disciplinary measures.
