Nigeria’s Super Eagles have fallen four positions to 30th in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking, published on Wednesday, while also dropping from fourth to sixth among African nations.
The three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners surrendered 17.05 ranking points during a challenging international break, with their total declining from 1,585.02 to 1,567.97. Their poor run included a 3-0 loss away to Guinea-Bissau in 2027 AFCON qualifying. Victor Osimhen was unavailable throughout the window because of injury.
Algeria, ranked 28th in the world, and Côte d’Ivoire, in 29th place, have both moved above Nigeria, pushing the Super Eagles down two spots in the African standings.
Guinea-Bissau made one of the biggest gains, jumping eight places to 124th. Rwanda climbed nine positions to 119th, while The Gambia rose seven spots to 109th. Botswana improved by six places to 141st and Mozambique advanced five positions to 98th after positive qualifying results.
Nigeria will have an opportunity to improve their position during the next FIFA international window, when a strong set of results could lift them in both the global and continental rankings.
World champions Spain remain top of the ranking on 2,011.57 points. Argentina, runners-up at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, sit second and trail Spain by nearly 40 points, with France holding third place.
Portugal were the only side inside the top 10 to make progress, moving up two places into fifth. They went past Brazil, now sixth, and Morocco, who are seventh. Switzerland also gained two positions and are 12th.
Mali, ranked 47th, and South Africa, in 48th, each climbed six places to break into the top 50. There are now 10 CAF member nations in that section of the list. FIFA reported that 338 men’s international matches have been staged since the World Cup final on 19 July.
