Nigeria’s road to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will open with a Group L meeting against Madagascar on September 23, followed by an away clash with Guinea-Bissau four days later.
Nigeria’s qualifying schedule
- The Super Eagles will welcome Madagascar for their first qualifying fixture on September 23.
- Nigeria will then travel to play Guinea-Bissau on September 27.
- Tanzania completes the four-team Group L lineup.
Head coach Eric Chelle is expected to announce his squad for the two games as Nigeria look to launch their campaign strongly after missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The qualifying window will also give Chelle further scope to shape his team after Nigeria’s latest friendly fixtures.
Reaching the 2027 AFCON, to be staged jointly by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, is now among Nigeria’s most pressing objectives.
Tanzania inspection begins
Meanwhile, a CAF inspection delegation has reached Tanzania to review the country’s preparations for the next Africa Cup of Nations.
- The assessment will run from September 1 through September 3.
- Inspectors will examine stadiums, practice grounds, hotels, transport arrangements and other tournament-related infrastructure.
- Tanzania will share hosting duties with Kenya and Uganda, marking the first time the continental championship will be jointly organised by the three East African nations.
- CAF officials have already completed a comparable visit to Kenya as checks continue across the host countries.
- The inspections are intended to measure progress at key facilities and highlight work that still needs to be completed before the tournament.
