Nigeria’s Super Falcons finished their build-up for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a gritty 2-1 triumph over Tanzania’s Twiga Stars in an international friendly played in Morocco on Tuesday.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade opened the scoring in the 15th minute, putting the nine-time African champions ahead after a bright start to the contest.
However, Nigeria faced an early blow when defender Rofiat Imuran picked up an injury and was substituted by Glory Ogbonna not long after Ajibade’s goal.
From there, both teams competed fiercely, with Tanzania making things difficult as they levelled matters late on while Nigeria continued to sharpen their preparations for the continental competition.
Esther Okoronkwo then struck in the 89th minute to secure the win, delivering the decisive goal and giving the Super Falcons a deserved 2-1 result in their last outing before the tournament.
The victory is set to lift confidence for Justine Madugu’s squad ahead of the start of the 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria will begin their campaign aiming for a record-extending 11th continental crown.
