Kamaru “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman is set to face South Africa’s Dricus “Stillknocks” du Plessis in a major UFC showdown this weekend, with SuperSport planning to air the contest live in English, Afrikaans and Pidgin.
The Pidgin broadcast option is part of SuperSport’s multilingual approach, designed to let Nigerian fans follow one of Africa’s biggest UFC matchups in a language that feels familiar.
When du Plessis steps into the Octagon against Usman, it’s not just another headline attraction. The matchup brings together two of the continent’s most decorated mixed martial artists, both former world champions, with both fighters carrying the expectations of their nations into the cage.
For decades, competition between Nigeria and South Africa has delivered unforgettable scenes, heated discussion and hard-fought rivalry. This weekend, that long-running contest takes on a new dimension in the Octagon, with the two African stars fighting for national pride, personal redemption and another opportunity to challenge for UFC gold.
“This fight is bigger than a typical UFC main event,” said Rendani Ramovha, CANAL+ Director for Content, Sports, speaking to audiences across English and Portuguese-speaking Africa.
“It’s a celebration of African talent on the global stage. By once again including Pidgin commentary alongside our English and Afrikaans coverage, we’re giving Nigerian supporters another engaging way to experience one of the most significant bouts in African combat sports history. At SuperSport, we’re focused on bringing world-class sport closer to audiences—making it more accessible, more compelling and more relevant across the continent.”
The main card showdown at Oklahoma City’s Paycom Centre holds major stakes for both men. Du Plessis returns after an 11-month layoff following his middleweight title defeat to Khamzat Chimaev, and he will be looking to re-launch his title path with a decisive performance.
Across from him is Usman (21-4 MMA, 16-3 UFC), a name often cited among the UFC’s most accomplished welterweight champions. With a permanent move to the middleweight ranks, “The Nigerian Nightmare” has the chance to position himself immediately as a serious contender in a second division. The bout also promises a compelling stylistic contrast, with du Plessis’ relentless pressure and finishing power going up against Usman’s high-level wrestling, measured striking and championship know-how.
The undercard brings plenty of momentum as well, headlined by Kevin Holland taking on undefeated rising talent Jacobe Smith. Featherweight contenders Austin Bashi and Jose Delgado are also scheduled, while unbeaten prospect Tommy McMillen faces Alberto Montes. A women’s strawweight fight features Tabatha Ricci versus Fatima Kline, along with additional bouts to round out the action-packed programme.
Broadcast coverage starts with the Preliminary Card on SS Action (DStv Ch. 206, GOtv Ch. 66) from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Main Card then begins at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday on SS Grandstand (DStv Ch. 201) and SS Action (DStv Ch. 206, GOtv Ch. 66).
With the main event between du Plessis and Usman highly anticipated, the start time is expected at roughly 3:15 a.m. Fans can also stream the fight live via the DStv Stream app, provided they have an active DStv subscription.
