Unai Emery has revealed that negotiations are under way over a fresh Aston Villa contract, despite speculation linking him with other Premier League clubs.
Long-term plans discussed
- Villa confirmed on Wednesday that senior figures had met to consider the club’s long-range direction beyond 2029, the year Emery’s existing deal is scheduled to end.
- The Spanish coach has been mentioned as a possible target for several sides, among them Manchester United, who face Villa this weekend.
- However, Emery is expected to remain at Villa Park after taking part in discussions about the club’s future alongside chairman Nassef Sawiris.
Emery outlines ambition
Speaking on Friday, Emery said: “My ambition is to maintain our consistency, continue the progress we are making and keep building many positive things. It is a very big challenge.”
He also pointed to plans for a new Villa Park stand as evidence of the club’s determination to move forward.
“Last year, in conversations with us, they made the decision to construct a new stand so that more supporters can come to Villa Park,” Emery said. “That is a clear move towards improving.”
