
Defending champions Dolphins Basketball Club were overwhelmed 77-40 by newcomers Victoria Queens on Day 4 of the Atlantic Conference in the Zenith Bank/Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Women’s League at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere.
Atlantic Conference
- The result was Dolphins’ second defeat in four matches, with Victoria Queens holding the champions at bay in every quarter.
- Dolphins began the competition with a 59-46 win against First Deep Water, but then suffered a 58-28 loss to Bayelsa Blue Whales.
- A 58-43 victory over IGP Queens briefly halted that slide, although the titleholders could not cope with Victoria Queens’ attacking strength.
- Wednesday’s triumph took Victoria Queens to three victories from four fixtures. They had previously beaten IGP Queens and Bayelsa Blue Whales, while their only setback came against MFM.
- First Bank also preserved its unbeaten start in Lagos, defeating Bayelsa Blue Whales 50-39 for a fourth successive win in the phase.
- IGP Queens, meanwhile, endured a fourth consecutive loss after Royal Aces secured a narrow 57-53 victory.
Savannah Conference
Nigeria Customs and Air Warriors continued to lead the Savannah Conference, with both teams still unbeaten in all matches played. Customs opened with a 62-51 success over Titans before recording a more emphatic 72-40 result against Nasarawa Amazons.
The organisers subsequently revised the Savannah Conference programme after Kada Angels and Ham Warriors withdrew late, leaving six teams in the field for the season’s First Phase.
