Youssef Abdelaziz Ends Assar’s Reign to Win African Table Tennis Title

Youssef Abdelaziz brought Omar Assar’s four-year unbeaten run at the ITTF Africa Championships to an end by defeating his Egyptian teammate 4-1 in the men’s singles final in Tangier, Morocco, on Sunday, 25 October.

Abdelaziz claims first continental singles title

  1. Abdelaziz reversed the result of the 2025 final, when Assar had beaten him, to secure his first African men’s singles championship.
  2. Assar entered the final as defending champion and a three-time winner of the continental title, having not lost at the event for four years.

Goda extends women’s singles dominance

  1. Hana Goda retained the women’s singles crown after overcoming fellow Egyptian Dina Meshref 4-1 in the final.
  2. The victory delivered Goda’s fourth straight African singles title.
  3. Goda had reached the final with a 4-1 semi-final win against Hend Fathy.
  4. Meshref earned her place in the title match by beating Mariam Alhodaby by the identical 4-1 score.

Egypt completes doubles clean sweep

Egypt added every available doubles and mixed doubles title to its singles success at the championships.

  1. Abdelaziz and Alhodaby successfully defended the mixed doubles title, edging Mostapha Badr and Farida Badawy 3-2 in an all-Egyptian final.
  2. Goda and Meshref won the women’s doubles crown with a 3-0 final victory over Algerian pairing Tania Morice and Jade Morice.
  3. Mohamed El-Beiali partnered Abdelaziz to take the men’s doubles, beating Congo Brazzaville’s Saheed Idowu and Algeria’s Sami Kherouf 3-0.

Earlier in the week-long event, Egypt had already captured both the men’s and women’s team trophies. The tournament was staged at the Olympic Arena in Tangier by the Royal Moroccan Table Tennis Federation.
