With just a few days left to go to the J&B MET, the big question on every girl’s mind is… What are you going to wear? Miss Buttons, our resident style expert, answers the question!
Please don’t wear a mini. Seriously. No matter how “on trend” you think the mini might be, it’s never (ever) going to be hot around the parade ring. The Brits took things quite gravely last year urging Royal Ascot goers to adhere to a new strict dress code. De-coded, the rigorous dress code can be understood in one simple sentence, “Don’t dress like a tart”. That’s the number one rule and should apply to all J&B MET goers, even if it’s not in writing.
When putting together your ensemble to this year’s theme, Made To Fly, don’t get too carried away and think you can pull of wings. You can’t, you won’t, so don’t. Instead consider soft flowing fabrics. Do include feather embellishments if you’re feeling cocky but remember less is always more.
Shoes are an essential drama to consider. Even if you’ve got box tickets there is, no doubt, a marathon walk on the cards for you. Wear something comfortable. Even though, the words “comfort” and “heels” rarely go in a sentence together, don’t be afraid to rock an embellished sandal or pump. The classic wedge will also work in your favour giving your feet a steady footing throughout the day.
Sunglasses are a major must have as you swan around the course for an afternoon bet. My advice is to buy a cheap trending pair that will look killer but you won’t miss because you’re bound to misplace them. There are incredible pearl or black cat eyes at ALDO for R130.00, I got both for good measure and you should too.
We can’t wait to see what zalebs like Bonang Matheba, Pearl Thusi, Jackie Burger and the Masina twins put together.
And away they go…
XOXO.
