The peplum trend is here to stay (sigh) and fashion gurus are convinced it can actually make you look thinner. Resident style expert, Miss Buttons, gives you five quick tips to deal with all that extra fabric around your hips. If Beyonce, Liv Tyler and Kate Middleton can pull it off so can you!
1. Go for structure. You want a strong, modern look an update of the Mad Men vibe. Thick fabrics like tweed, velt or faux leather are perfect for this look. Try this RT top from Mr. Price for R69.99.
2. Whatever you wear below the pouf should be streamlined. For example, pair the above Mr. Price metallic peplum top with a pair of faux leather or printed leggings.
3. Flaunt it. The whole point of a peplum is to accentuate women’s curves, particularly the waist to hip curve. So don’t think it’s a look reserved for hungry catwalk models.
6. Wear heels. Do not try this look with flats. You must wear a good pair of heels to create the illusion of longer legs.
7. Stick to one colour. Go black, blue or bold colours but don’t do peplum in a pattern or print.
