The rapper was assassinated in Durban on Friday, 10th of February by an unknown suspect. The motive behind the hit is unknown. His family traveled to Durban over the weekend to go and identify his body.
They also went to the crime scene to lay flowers on the spot where the rapper was gunned down. As reported by the SABC on Sunday, Forbes' legal representative Rudolf Baloyi, confirmed the corpse had arrived in Johannesburg.
“Yesterday, as you would have seen, we spent the day in Durban, where we went to identify him with the brother and the father. We spent time with the detectives and came back with him and he is now in Johannesburg,” he was quoted as saying.
It's still unclear where the rapper would be buried because he was born in Cape Town, but he was staying full-time in Johannesburg. Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula has questioned the motive behind the shooting and wants police to crack the case as soon as possible.

“It was a hit. AKA was assassinated in broad daylight and we believe in the capacity of the police and get to bottom of this. Because AKA was not a drug lord. He was a musician.”The parents of late rapper Tony Forbes confirmed his death in a statement on Saturday morning.
“It is with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son, and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the evening of February 10, 2023.”
“Our son was loved and he gave love in return. In this time of grief, we appeal for your compassion, space and time to congregate as family to decide on the upcoming days. We thank you for the love and support we have received thus far, and ask you to continue to keep us in your prayers and uplifted in the Lord.”
The family of Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane who was killed alongside AKA, also released a statement where they thanked everyone for the support and love they have received since the tragic murder of their loved one.
“To us, Tebello was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. To many, he was Tibz Wa Bantwana, Chief of Cool, Summer Time Cool Creator, K1 K9, and many other names of affection. Our son was loved and he gave love in return. As we come to terms with the devastating truth that our only son is no longer with us we appeal for your compassion, space, and time to congregate as a family to decide on the upcoming days.
