AKA's Memorial And Funeral Service Details Announced

Tickets for the memorial service are limited

The Forbes family has released the funeral details of the late rap superstar, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes. The family acknowledged the outpouring love they have received so far from friends, family and supporters of the Fela In Versace hitmaker.

AKA was gunned down on Friday, February 10 in Durban after a night out with friends. He met up with a long time friend and former manager Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, who also unfortunately lost his life that same night. Together, they made moves and opened doors for a lot of artists in the industry who are now left shattered over this gruesome incident.

Taking to his Instagram page, The Forbes family thanked the public for their love and support as they prepare to give AKA a proper send off.

"We as the Forbes family would like to acknowledge the outpouring of love we have received over the past few days. Kiernan wasn't just loved by us as a family but by the nation," they wrote in part.

They continued by saying they would like to celebrate his life with everyone who loved him, "...his memorial will therefore be open to the public as well as streamed online."

The funeral details are as follows: "Kiernan will be laid to rest in a private provincial funeral on Saturday, 18 February 2023."

His memorial service will take place on Friday, 17 February at the Sandton Convention Centre at 3PM. Those who wish to attend can do so by purchasing tickets at Web tickets however they will be limited. His memorial service will also be live streamed on his AKAworldwide YouTube channel.

The Forbes family confirmed his death in a statement asking for privacy from fans.

“It is with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son, and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the evening or February 10, 2023. We are awaiting further details from Durban police," wrote Tony and Lynn Forbes.

“To us, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, most importantly father to his beloved daughter Kairo,” his parents added. “To many, he was AKA, Supa Mega, Bhova and the many other names of affection his legion of fans called him by. Our son was loved and gave love in return.”

Tibz will also be laid to rest this weekend.

In a statement, Tibz's family said they are still waiting for details about the shooting from the police. They continued to thank everyone for the support and love they have received since the incident happened.

“To us, Tebello was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. To many, he was Tibz Wa Bantwana, Chief of Cool, Summer Time Cool Creator, K1 K9, and many other names of affection. Our son was loved and he gave love in return. As we come to terms with the devastating truth that our only son is no longer with us we appeal for your compassion, space, and time to congregate as a family to decide on the upcoming days.

“We thank you for the love and support we have received and ask you to continue to lift us up in prayer before the Lord," reads the statement.
