Bonang Dorothy Matheba is one of South Africa's most successful and recognized media personalities with a body of work that has allowed her to work on international platforms and work with internationally recognized brands. 

Bonang's birthday, age and early life


Bonang Matheba was born on the 25th of June 1987 in the North West province. She is 31 years old.

Bonang's parents - Professor Andrew Gampi Matheba and Charlotte Mokoena divorced when she was still little, but her parent's separation never affected her, even though she admits that she craved having a family unit with both her parents living under one roof.

However, her parents showered her with so much love that the divorce didn't even become a negative factor in her life.

Bonang's father was a lecturer at the University of the North West while her mother is an Executive Vice President of Human Resources & Corporate Affairs.

Bonang has two younger siblings, Reabetswe and Thabo Mokoena. While Thabo is still in school, Reabetswe is very much in the media industry as well.

Bonang Matheba's career


Mzansi was introduced to 19-year-old Matheba back in 2007 when she auditioned and got the role as a co-host for SABC 1's music show Live Amp alongside Tbo Touch.

Her role on Live Amp earned her instant fame and supporters who loved the energy and pizazz she brought onto the show.

From there on the Bonang Matheba brand was born and the media personality has been on a winning streak for the past 12 years.

Bonang has had the pleasure of hosting countless of award shows and being an MC for many pageants and other ceremonies.

From hosting the South African Music Awards, The Channel O Music Awards, Miss South Africa, The Global Citizen Festival and the Dstv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards. Bonang is always top of mind when organizations are in search of the best award show hosts.

Bonang has also positioned herself as a seasoned radio broadcaster.  In 2012  she became part of the YFM family and hosted a weekend show called the B-Hive.

She then graduated to national radio status when she became a radio host on Metro FM. However, she found herself in a bit of trouble in 2014 when she got fired from the radio station after she agreed to join a competitor brand, an issue that was against the terms of her contract with the radio station. After much talk with the powers that be, Bonang got her job back on the radio station, but her stay wasn't long as she then resigned from Metro FM in 2017.

However, Bonang is one to never be unemployed as her TV presenting career was still intact.

Bonang had the pleasure of being a Top Billing presenter and the host of Mzansi Magic's Clash Of The Choirs which she presented for two seasons.

In 2018 Bonang also launched her reality TV show titled Being Bonang which followers a day in the life of South Africa's most loved media personality.

Bonang is a lover of brands and brands love her just as much as well.

In 2013, the media darling became the first ambassador of Revlon South Africa, a role she held for four years.

She also became the ambassador of premium vodka brand Ciroc but later on got scooped by cognac brand - Courvoisier.

She also partnered with lingerie brand - Distraction and has had a great and long-standing relationship with the brand for the past couple of years.

In 2016, she was also named the African spokesperson for Ipanema sandals.

Bonang Matheba's relationships


Bonang and Euphonik


Bonang's first public relationship was with DJ Euphonik; however, their relationship ended after the two were involved in a physical altercation that led to Bonang pressing charges against Euphonik, she later dropped the charges as they had resolved their issues privately.

Bonang and D'banj


It was rumoured that Bonang and D'Banj were an item back in 2015, the rumours were fueled when the two locked lips at the MTV MAMA's after it was announced that D'Banj had won an award. However, their relationship ended abruptly, without any explanation.

Bonang and AKA


Bonang then went on to date rapper -  AKA for two years. Their relationship was one of the most talked about celebrity relationships in the South African entertainment industry.

The two broke up in 2017; AKA confirmed the break up via a series of tweets.

Bonang's Awards


The media darling has been nominated and won a number of awards throughout her 12-year career in media.
