Cassper Nyovest's album Tsholofelo is the first South African rap album to hit gold status in less than three months. The Mafikeng-born star has had a very solid year and this recent achievement is another feather in Mr Nyovest's cap. As if he needed anymore feathers to add; Nyovest's stock is currently riding high after collaborating with US rapper Talib Kweli, on the Doc Shebeleza remix.
Regarding his album reaching gold status, Nyovest said, "I was not really shocked that the album sold gold. I make great music that has a high standard."
The album was released in July, with a digital copy released on Mandela Day followed by the hard copy on the last day of the same month.
"I'm an independent artist, I'm not signed under anyone," said Nyovest.
Cassper also owns and runs Family Tree, which has also branched out into clothing.
"Since I released the sweater the demand has been crazy," he said of his clothing line.
"My intention is to do everything for the streets, whether it's clothing or music," he added.
The only way a great day (As well as week, month and year) can become even better is if Cassper secures the eight nominations he's got his eye on for this year's SA Hip-Hop Awards. The nominations are due to be announced later today.
"I'm expecting to get eight this year," said the rapper who won best newcomer last year.
Awards founder Osmic Menoe said: "Nyovest scooping four awards last year goes to show that he wanted it that much. We looked at his consistency and work, that's why we're not shocked by the success he has received this year."
Menoe also confirmed that the awards, which are now in their third year, will be hosted at a new venue; Gold Reef City's Lyric Theatre; next month.
