Cici Twala is one of the legendary South African musicians who got in the industry at a young age.

She has managed to survive the industry by staying true to herself and when she eventually ended her abusive relationship with Arthur Mafokate, she focused on giving her fans great music.

After going through all the assault and abuse, she was on the edge of not being able to conceive but the universe decided otherwise.

Here is Cici Twala's journey to being the strong woman she is today. 

Cici Twala Age

Cici Twala was born on the 15th of February 1987. She is 33 years old.

Cici Twala Early Life

Cici Twala was named Busiswe Edith Twala when she was born in Ladysmith KwaZulu-Natal.

She was raised by both parents who were pastors and were quite supportive of her singing career.

Cici Twala, however, dropped out of university, where she was studying psychology to concentrate on her music career.

Cici Twala Marriage

In early 2020, Cici Twala dropped a very cryptic pic of herself and her bae's hands - which had her fans wondering who he might be. One thing's for sure, Cici is happily in love.

After much digging it was found who the vocalist was gushing about - Puledi Manamela.

Puledi is a Rugby agent and sports entrepreneur who is involved in sports apparel and equipment. 

Doctors told Cici Twala that she won’t be able to carry her own children after she was involved in a physical fight and a car accident with Arthur Mafokate.

In early 2020, Cici Twala revealed that she was pregnant Cici Twala revealed that pregnancy was stressful and on top of that Covid-19 was adding more stress on her as her family could only offer virtual support due to social distancing. She gave birth in May 2020.

Her prince finally arrived on May 15 2020.

Cici Twala Past Relationship

Cici Twala was once in a relationship with the South African Kwaito star Arthur Mafokate. They dated from the start of her career. The couple faced their troubles and it eventually led to their break-up.

Cici Twala revealed that she and Arthur broke up because she was in an abusive relationship.

Cici Twala laid assault charges following an alleged violent dispute with then-boyfriend Arthur Mafokate. In emotional court testimony in, Cici Twala detailed how Arthur drove a distance of 300 metres while dragging her along the street when she tried to break up with him.

"For the longest time, I’ve struggled with forgiveness because I had to wake up to these every morning and they served as a constant reminder. I remember going on holiday and trying on a bikini. I took one look at myself in the mirror and just balled my eyes. I was filled with so much anger and hatred." 
Their legal battle dragged on for over a year, with Arthur opening counter assault charges against her claiming that he was the one subjected to physical assault. However, Cici was found not guilty of those charges and Arthur was also acquitted of the assault charges.

Cici Twala Career

Cici Twala is one immensely talented artist who earned her stripes as she became the winner of the South Africa Artist & Development Association auditions which were held countrywide.

The award-winning RNB artist is one of South Africa's most recognizable and sought-after singers. Cici rose to fame in 2015 with her popular hit song Runaway and she has since enjoyed a successful music career in the entertainment industry.

Cici Twala previously worked with Mafikizolo and has also showcased her talent on Idols SA and SA popstars.

She has recorded many hit songs such as Runaway and Bad Girl which brought her to the spotlight. Her song Runway trended on national radio and TV stations.

Cici joined Ambitiouz Entertainment in the year 2017 and she released her first single under the record label titled Iqiniso. The single was composed with soft instruments and produced by renowned producer Ruff.

Cici released her 12 track albumin 2017, which she titled Busiswe. The album was well received as her fans had long awaited the release of her album, which is titled after her name.

After the release of the album, Iqiniso and Amandla Akho were reverberating throughout the South African musical mainstream, this gained Cici more sales and relevance.

She has also performed in theatre and cabaret singing. Cici Twala played the role of Lihle on Rhythm City, a South African drama series. She also made an appearance on Generations, an SABC1 series. 

In November, when the star-studded cast of #KingsOfJoburg was revealed via a trailer, Mzansi was stoked - but little did we know that there are even more big names to look forward to when the show premieres this year.

The Ndidinge hitmaker will be joining the likes of Jub Jub, Zolisa Xaluva, Sthembiso Khoza, Abdul Khoza, Tsholo Matshaba, the creator himself; Shona Ferguson and American actress Terri Vaugh.

After being kept in a record label that didn’t allow her growth in her skills as a musician, she released her album in 2017 and she returned to her nature of winning. Since the release of her album, Cici has earned herself an award from SABC and Metro FM Awards.

Cici Twala Controversy 

Assault Charges

Cici Twala endured severe abuse from ger ex-boyfriend and it resulted in a court case that was preceded at the Midrand Magistrate court. Authur Mafoke was arrested and then released on R500 bail. 

Describing her what happened during the moment of her being dragged from a vehicle, in court she shared; 

"I was basically ending my relationship with him and I was picking up my belongings. The commotion started because I wanted to end the relationship and he didn't want me to call an Uber," 

Cici Twala during court shared that she was packing her clothes to leave but he (Arthur) asked her to stay so that they could talk about their relationship. Twala claimed that she continued packing her clothes and he took her phone to stop her from requesting an Uber.

"I tried to open the driver's door and found it was locked. He still had my phone. He then pulled away from the garage and I was still holding onto the door handle of the car and asking for my phone. I saw he had no intention to stop," she told the court. 

"As he accelerated, I grabbed on with both hands because my right arm may be dislocated. I fell on the ground while he continued driving. I tried to stand up but couldn't. I dragged myself to the nearest residence".

Claiming her royalties

After she went through the abuse case, she gave it time and until she was healed, Cici has obtained a provisional court order at the Johannesburg High Court in a bid to liquidate Arthur Mafokate's record label after the owner failed to pay her R50,000 she was owed from 2016.

In 2016, Cici won Best R&B singer and Best Styled Artist at the 2016 Metro FM Music awards; the awards combined were supposed her a total of R200,000.

According to reports, Arthur allegedly used R150,000 of this money on her brand but he failed to give her the remaining balance of R50,000 and now Cici wants it all back. 

Cici Twala overcame all the challenges she faced in life and today? She continues to show her prowess as a musician and worked on becoming an actress and after the Doctors told her she might not be able to give birth? Cici is today celebrating motherhood.
