Award-winning actress Dawn Thandeka King who plays the role of MaNgcobo on Uzalo and Rhythm City’s Mduduzi Mabaso who plays Suffocate Ndlovu will lead the cast of Isibaya’s replacement show titled, DiepCity.

Other cast members include; Nozuko Ncayiyane from Scandal! and new cast members; Kgaogelo Monama, Zikhona Bali and Nompumelelo Vilakazi.
The upcoming telenovela which is directed by Black Brains award-winning director and creator; Mandla N who is responsible for shows like eHostela and Lockdown. The show will premiere on the 5th of April which is the same night as SABC3’s upcoming novella, The Estate which stars actors like Sdumo Mtshali and Dineo Langa.
So what is the show about?
The show will focus on the struggles of four young women who are trying to make their way in the world. These women were forced into crime when they were teenagers.
Former Skeem Saam’s Nozuko Ncayiyane who plays the role of Nox will do some time in jail and return to find her family still stricken in poverty and her alcoholic father unemployed.
Her father, Bonga is played by Hamilton Dlamini and her mother Thandiwe who is a domestic worker is played by Dawn Thandeka King who still blames her for her brother’s death.
Nomsa Philiso, the director of local entertainment channels at M-Net had this to say about the upcoming novella: “As part of our new show offering for April, ’DiepCity’ is a tale that not only has an explosive, gripping storyline but one that exposes the lived realities of most South Africans – the life of crime and poverty.
The show also goes beyond the act of crime itself and delves into what motivates or compels desperate people to do what they do. This telenovela promises to be a very popular debutant in the primetime slot and we are very excited about this.”
Director Mandla N had this to say about the show: “The secret recipe behind great storytelling is a mix of several ingredients – a relatable storyline, great casting and a passion for filmmaking. We expect viewers to be blown away by Nox’s story, which is one of poverty, heartbreak, redemption and hope, all encompassed into one crime thriller.”
