Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters gained worldwide fame when she was crowned the fairest in the universe. 

The South African beauty queen beat Miss Colombia Laura González to win the Miss Universe pageant in 2017. 

Demi-Leigh’s career has been soaring high ever since. 

The model is more than just a pretty face. She graduated from North West University with a BCom Business Management and Entrepreneurship degree.

Demi-Legh Nel-Peters was born in Sedgefield, Western Cape, on June 28, 1995. She celebrated her 24th birthday in 2019 with a trip to Niagara Falls State Park in America.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters Miss South Africa, Miss Universe 

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters won the Miss South Africa title in March 2017. The then 21-year-old was eligible for both the Miss World and Miss Universe pageant. Because both pageants were taking place in November, Demi-Leigh decided to only enter Miss Universe. The gamble paid off!

Demi-Leigh was crowned Miss Universe 2017 in Las Vegas, USA, on November 27, 2017. The model was based in New York during her reign but travelled to several countries including India and Thailand.

Demi-Leigh reflected on her Miss Universe journey in an emotional post one year after her win.

“On this day a year ago, my life changed forever. What a defining and life-changing moment it was being crowned Miss Universe 2017. Forever grateful to everyone who believed in me and my dreams just as much as I did. South Africa, thank you for trusting me to represent you. I’m still in awe of God’s grace and the surprises he blesses us with. Jeremiah 29:1,” she wrote on Instagram.

Is Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters white?

There have been many questions about Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters’ race. While some say she’s white, others believe the model has mixed-race descent on her father's side. Some publications refer to her as a “cape coloured”. Demi-Leigh has not spoken about her race.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters mother

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters’ mother, Anna-Marie Steenkamp, is one of her biggest supporters. Anna-Marie waited patiently at Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International Airport in January 2018 to welcome Demi-Leigh home after she won the Miss Universe pageant.  The last time Anna-Marie had seen her daughter was in November 2017. 

“I think I will cry when I see her. I miss her terribly‚ you know. She will always be my baby and I often wonder how she’s adjusting in a foreign country‚” Anna-Marie told TshisaLIVE. 

Demi-Leigh is also close to her stepmother, Elzabé Peters. Both Anna-Marie and Elzabé were by her side throughout her Miss SA and Miss Universe journeys. They also helped her celebrate her bridal shower in August 2019.

"To both my mammas, you made my bridal shower so extremely special but the reality is that you’ve made everyday of my life special and meaningful by filling it with your motherly love, grace and guidance. I want you to remember as I prepare to say I do, I will never outgrow my love and need for you," Demi-Leigh wrote on Instagram.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters parents

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters’ biological parents are Anna-Marie Steenkamp and Bennie Peters. Her stepfather, Johan Steenkamp and stepmother, Elzabé Peters, have also played a special part in her life.

“I consider myself extremely blessed to have four amazing parents. They are my biggest supporters and they have always believed in me and dreamed with me,” she told YOU magazine in an interview.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters sister 

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters adored her half-sister, Franje Peters. The 13-year-old was born with cerebellar agenesis. Sadly, Franje passed away in June 2019. 

“My little Princess, Angel on Earth, biggest joy and baby sister, Franje, passed away earlier today. Our hearts are aching beyond measure but I am grateful knowing she’s forever relieved of the pain she experienced on earth. She’s laughing, running and playing in heaven just like we always hoped she would on earth. She’s free! Thank you for all your prayers, love and support,” Demi-Leigh wrote on Instagram.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters boyfriend 

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is engaged to American athlete, Tim Tebow. The couple met through Night to Shine. The initiative, which is part of the Tim Tebow Foundation, hosts special prom nights around the world for children with special needs.

“[Demi-Leigh’s] sister has special needs, so we invited them to Night to Shine in South Africa. We kind of met and started talking through that and haven't stopped," Tim told Today in an interview.

The lovers made their relationship Instagram-official in March 2018. Tim proposed to Demi-Leigh with a  7.25-carat diamond ring in January 2019. Demi-Leigh has already developed a special bond with her in-laws. She introduced her parents to Tim’s family in 2018.

Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters will reportedly become husband and wife sometime in 2019. The couple is yet to reveal their wedding date but have been busy planning their big day. Demi-Leigh celebrated her first bridal shower in South Africa and her second one in America.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters faith, religion, Christian

Like her fiancé Tim Tebow, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is a staunch Christian. The couple is waiting for their wedding night to have sex. 

“It’s just a choice that we made, that we both wanted to do that together and we’ll try to make it as special as possible,” Tebow told the Christian Post in February 2019.

They have also decided not to move in together until they tie-the-knot.
