DJ Sbu’s career

After obtaining his first degree in Sound Engineering in 1998, DJ Sbu officially launched his career as a radio producer and host at Tembisa Info Radio.
After 18 months at Tembisa Info Radio, DJ Sbu left and got another job at YFM
where he co-hosted and produced a popular weekend show called Beauty and the Beast.
DJ Sbu also made a debut in the film industry in 2000. He filmed a movie called Hang
Time, was featured in Generations
and shot the Toyota Tazz advert. He was also featured in Isidingo
in 2001 and starred in a television drama series called It Rained Last Night.
He served as a Dj in the Vinyl Experience Meltdown Competition which was every Friday on Dj
Fresh’s show, the Easy Drive and he also presented a youth talent show called Gumbi Fire on
SABC1.
In 2005, DJ Sbu became the host for a new radio show on YFM called Y-Lens. After a year, he
left YFM and joined Ukhozi FM but resigned shortly and returned to YFM.
In February 2008, DJ Sbu was given a month-long suspension by YFM after he was reportedly
playing music produced by his label production company instead of the playlist compiled by
the station’s music compiler and as a result he benefited from the royalties.

Together with Thembinkosi Nciza, DJ Sbu founded a record label called TS Records. The label
signed some big musicians in the country including Zahara,

Dash and even DJ Sbu himself. TS Records was dissolved in 2017 after receiving a lot
of negative publicity.
Following the dissolution of TS Records, DJ Sbu went on to launch his second business- an
energy drink called MoFaya. He reportedly sold 26% of the business to Coca-Cola.
