Born Mthembeni Ndevu in Matatiele, Eastern Cape in 1992, Emtee is one of the finest rappers in South Africa who delivers his clever lyrics in a blend of English and Zulu. 

Emtee officially launched his music career in 2010 and in the 12 years he has been in the industry, he has been through ups and downs, each time coming out stronger than before.

In 2020, Emtee joined the long list of Mzansi celebrities who have businesses in the fashion industry after launching his sneaker line.

History and launch of Emtee’s Sneakers

In June 2020, Emtee announced that he would be launching his sneaker line called Emtee Sneakers. The rapper revealed that the shoe brand would be his own without “ambassador deals.”

In partnership with a local brand designer and manufacturer called Spelete, Emtee announced the launch of his sneakers in early September 2020.

According to Spelete’s official pages, Emtee Sneakers would be available in either matte or high-end gloss for both men and women.

Emtee Sneakers come in a range of colours, the most common colours being red, white and black. They all have a red rubber sole and Emtee’s signature on the back.

Prices of Emtee Sneakers

Emtee Sneakers prices range from between R1600 to R1900. Ladies Gloss retail at R1600, Men’s Matte at R1800, and Men’s Gloss at R1900.

Where can you buy a pair of Emtee Sneakers?

After its launch, Emtees Sneakers were available at all Spelete branches countrywide. They are also available online and one can place orders through the WhatsApp numbers provided by Spelete.

Since launching the sneakers in 2020, Emtee has not talked much about his sneakers of late and it’s not clear whether they are still in production and in the market or not.

Besides his sneakers, Emtee has also capitalized in other areas of the fashion industry and is doing quite well.

He has a line of apparel and outfits including t-shirts, hoodies and hats that are branded with the “Emtee Records” label.

Other South African rappers who have their own shoe lines include AKA who partnered with Reebok to produce SneAKA and Cassper Nyovest who collaborated with Drip Footwear to release Drip 990 Root of Fame.

Sho Madjozi with Nike launched Melanin Boyz Club x NIKE x Sho Madjozi collection, award-winning musician Makhadzi has Kokhova which she launched in partnership with Kick Sportswear, and Somizi Mhlongo has Bathu x Somizi sneakers which he launched in partnership with Bathu sneakers.
