Following a failed hijacking attempt in the East Rand this past weekend, Skeem Saam actor Eric Macheru took to Instagram to thank the two police men who not only saved his life but escorted him to his destination to ensure he made it there in one piece.
According to Sowetan Live, Macheru was almost hijacked at an intersection in Greenstone, East of Johannesburg.
Quick thinking, evasive driving and a serendipitous run-in with the police all worked together to get Macheru out of danger.
While at the intersection, a man reportedly approached Macheru's car. Sensing that something was off, Macheru decided to speed off and was subsequently chased by the man in what can only be assumed to be his partner's car and another car.
"The police spotted me and followed me. The other cars sped off. When the police learned what had happened‚ they escorted me home in Linden. Apart from the shock‚ I’m okay‚ and grateful to be alive‚” Macheru told the publication.
Although crime is unfortunately a constant reality for most South Africans, it certainly gets worse around this time seeing as the festive season is approaching. Just ask former Big Brother Mzansi contestant, Lexi Van who had her windows smashed this past weekend.
Thank God the car wasn't taken. Windows smashed. Nothing taken. Not even my cash. Or brand new sneakers. All this happened in Sandton.

I don't go around provoking people. If they wanted the car, they could've taken it. The car next to mine was taken https://t.co/rAUrun97Ih

Things are getting worse out there and this is just proof that it can happen to anyone. We hope you all stay safe this festive season.
