Birth of Stars is currently in its first season with episodes posted bi-monthly on Fridays. As we wait for episode five of the hit show. ZAlebs had the opportunity to have an intimate, touching and sometimes funny virtual interview with our favourite rising stars.

Kamo address wearing makeup and “female” clothes as gay personalities

One of the first points of discussion with the trio was on the matter of their pronouns, with each confirming they identify as “he/him.” As such, Kamo would address the matter as a gay-identifying man who uses makeup and dresses in clothing stereotypically meant for women by countering the narrative by stating:

“There is nowhere and no way, in the world where makeup is written that it’s only for ladies… So, I feel like whatever I’m fully expressive of myself in, I feel like it is something I would do (and wear). However, I feel like that does nothing to my pronouns or what I identify as.”
Coachella Randy on the myth that Birth of Stars is a group

One of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to Kamo, Kagiso and Coachella Randy is that they are often mistaken for a group. But in actuality, the trio are three different entities and brands, who just happened to find mainstream success together.

As such, Kamo is a model with aspirations of growing his brand with the fashion and beauty niche. Coachella Randy is a social media star and content creator who is looking to innovate in his already established market. While Kagiso, as shared on the show, is a DJ and YouTube personality still finding his feet and overall brand. Speaking on the pressures and misconception on their formation, Coachella Randy explained:

“...It comes with a lot! I want people to understand that we are not a group. We are just friends, who, uhm, who gravitate to one another because of personalities, uhm, talents and our interests, you know… We have the same vision, but different paths. (Therefore) we just decided to do this together (but) we are not Destiny’s Child, we’re not Mahotela Queens, we’re not Threesome. We’re not anything, we’re Randy, Kamo and Kagiso.”
Kagiso highlights the best thing about their new found fame

Kagiso Mogola is the newly 20-year-old who celebrates his birthday today on Saturday, 27 August 2022. He, along with Randy and Kamo, were unanimous in their sentiments about what has been the highlight of their journey to mainstream success by stating that:

“My highlight of this journey in general is that I’m so happy I got to meet these two girlies (giggles).’Cause I believe, a hundred percent, that I would not be where I am today without them.”
