KB Gives Her All In Lebo Role
We are just over one week away from the release of the most anticipated biopic in South African history: Dream – The Lebo Mathosa Story.

The show, which is a 6-part documentary, will be airing on BET Africa and we had the opportunity to speak to the lead actress, Keabetswe ‘KB’ Motsilanyane, about the massive role she had just landed.

The singer and actress controversially replaced Kelly Khumalo on the production and will be starring as the older Lebo Mathosa when Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story debuts on television screens. The younger Lebo will be played by Somizi and Palesa Madisakwane’s daughter, Bahumi Mhlongo.

Despite the drama that has surround KB’s new role, the former Backstage star is extremely excited at the prospect of acting as one of South Africa’s most legendary singers of all time. She spoke to ZAlebs about the “important” story she was about to tell at the launch of the show in Johannesburg last week when she said,

“This production is extremely exciting because it’s the first of its kind. We haven’t had such an important biopic of a national figure and it’s going to be an international showcase. Nobody has ever lived a life like Lebo Mathosa. It’s right for South Africans to see her life again and see how her legend still lives on in our own country.”

When the time came to speak about the actual role, KB described the skill that it took to accurately portray one of Mzansi’s most renowned artist of all time for the 6-part documentary when she said:

“The role demanded me to be very out there and extroverted, you know? But I found myself getting there and I just found myself having a great time and it allowed me to connect with myself authentically because that’s just how Lebo was. But nobody can do Lebo better than Lebo herself!”

Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story airs on BET on the 6th of November 2019 at 9:30 PM.
