South Africa in recent years has seen an increase in the amount of international stars that seemingly come to visit the country. First it was the fact that the blockbuster film, The Woman King was shot in South Africa. Then when the promotional tour rolled out, we were spoiled as Thuso Mbedu and John Boyega flew all the way back to the country to spend a week in South Africa.
While Mbedu might have flown back across the pond, this week, we have seen a number of international musicians from the US come to South Africa. While most are niche artists that are not necessarily household names in the country. Their fans are excited to know that they are in the country. Here is a list of the notable stars currently breathing the same air as you are, if you are also in the country.
- Kehlani
First to announce their arrival in the country was American singer-songwriter, Kehlani. Taking to her Instagram stories, the soulful musician first posted a mirror selfie and tagged it with her location, “South Africa.” The musician, similar to the rest of the artists in our list are part of the lineup for the return of beloved three-day festival Rocking The Daisies which is currently underway in Cape Town between Friday, 7 October 2022 and Sunday, 9 October 2022.
As such, Kehlani, also revealed that while she is in Cape Town, she is doing what all of us would do by indulging in fresh seafood available in the Mother City. Her first official post since arriving was a number of car selfies captioned with “What a life,” as she continues to take in the beauty of the country.
- Bas
Not a stranger to the country, underground Hip-Hop artist Bas, is also in the Mother City for Rocking the Daisies. The artist who is signed to J.Cole’s record label Dreamville was part of the first day lineup of the festival as he took to his social media to share snippets of his crowd-packed performance on the night.
- Fivio Foreign
The last American artist to announce their arrival in the country was underground Hip-Hop authority Fivio Foreign. Taking to Twitter on Friday, 7 October 2022, Fivio announced that he is in the country. But what seemed to surprise the rapper even more was the fact that he has a loyal and avid fan base in “Africa” as he took to Twitter to speak on the fact.
The rapper before landing the country had faced some scandal in his home country, This is as his baby mama’s video went viral where she was suggested that the Hip-Hop artist might be a “double-twin plug,” if you get, you get it. Therefore, it must have come as a relief to be spoiled in a foreign country where most people know you just for your music and just want to see you perform it.
While most of the artists are currently in Cape Town, it will be interesting to see whether or not they will extend their visits to visit other provinces in our beautiful land.
