Maggie Benedict's headaches seem to be far from over. (See what I did there?)
The Ashes to Ashes actress appeared in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday in connection with last year's controversial shoplifting incident. Maggie Benedict also raised eyebrows when she expressed her belief that the police arrested her for such a petty incident, simply to make an example of her.
According to Daily Sun the actress claimed that the police told her they could do whatever they wanted to do to her, including beating her up.
"Maggie said that she knew that cops got promotions for arresting well-known people and she believed the fact that she was a celebrity played a role in what happened to her," the paper reported.
The former Generations actress was arrested in 2013 for allegedly stealing a R17,90 packet of Panados at Checkers, Cresta Mall.
She said in court: "As I left the shop, a security guard asked for my bag and found a sealed packet of Panados. She asked for my till slip but I couldn’t find it."
According to Daily Sun , Maggie claimed that she had bought the pills two or three weeks before her arrest and could have thrown away the slip. She apparently always has the pills with her because she often has headaches.
She reportedly pled "not guilty" to charges of theft. The case was postponed to 14 April for closing arguments.
